National data suggest that, from one year to the next, about 84 percent of teachers remain in the same school, 8 percent transfer to a different school, and 8 percent leave the profession (Goldring et al., 2014).
Leaver. A classroom teacher who takes a nonteaching position or exits a state public school system. For example, a classroom teacher who becomes a principal in the same school is considered a leaver because he or she has left a classroom teaching position. Mover. A classroom teacher who transfers to a classroom teaching position in a different school or district within a state public school system. Stayer. A classroom teacher who remains in a classroom teaching position in the same school.
