Time: 2:15 p.m.-3:15 p.m. CT
Location: Minnesota Administrators for Special Education Conference 2023, Brainerd, Minnesota
Description: Evidence shows that all students benefit from a diverse educator workforce. What steps can administrators take to build an inclusive school culture that supports Indigenous educators and why does this matter? At this MASE session, we will understand the legal responsibilities, what the research and literature indicates about access to teachers and student success, and discover strategies for recruiting and retaining educators. The Minnesota Department of Education’s State Personnel Development Grant (SPDG) focuses on increasing and retaining the number of Native American special education educators. We will introduce the Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College coaching series for school staff and school leaders, and then facilitate sharing and discussion about elements of the school environment and working conditions that support teachers.
