Home Resource Mentoring New Teachers in Louisiana
This video highlights Louisiana’s Believe and Prepare teacher residency program, which pairs new teachers with experienced mentor teachers for one year, and describes REL Southwest’s partnership with the Louisiana Department of Education to study the performance and retention outcomes of first-year teachers who participated in the program’s pilot. In addition, REL Southwest supported the agency with a survey of principals and teacher mentors to better understand their experiences with the Believe and Prepare program.
The video features staff from REL Southwest, the Louisiana Department of Education, the American Institutes for Research, and the School of Education at Southern University and A&M College as well as interviews with a current Louisiana teacher resident and a former mentor teacher.
